David: A competitive game with Trewin in very hot conditions at King George’s Park on a Friday morning! Although there was a slight breeze, the sun was blazing down on the court and I was soon drenched with sweat! The opening set followed a strange pattern when I won the first two games, Trewin claimed the next two games and so on! The pattern continued throughout and I won 6-4 but that doesn’t tell the full story! We both had some brilliant exchanges and I was forced to run all over the court and chase a number of lost causes! My energetic approach possibly helped me to win the set as I forced Trewin into additional shots when he would have been forgiven for thinking the point had been won! However, the dynamic changed and Trewin dictated proceedings for the rest of the match! The second set was evenly poised at 1-1 before Trewin stamped his authority! Trewin not only managed to hit more winners but he also made fewer errors and forced me down blind alleys! Even when I managed to keep rallies alive, Trewin was perfectly placed to mop up with a clinical volley or groundstroke! Moreover, I began to tire in the heat and Trewin won five games in a row to level the match at one set all! We still had 45 minutes remaining and ample time for a deciding third set! Once again, the score was level at 1-1 after the first two games but Trewin went from strength to strength and I soon cut a disconsolate figure on the court! Trewin seemed to have an answer to everything I threw at him and I subsequently ran out of gas to chase down the ball! Trewin also has a very short backswing when striking winners and fooled me into thinking I had more time to reach the ball! At 5-1 down I managed to earn a break-point at 30-40 but Trewin’s forehand struck the line to force deuce! Trewin then wasted little time in completing the formalities to clinch a fully deserved victory! Well played Trewin! You were simply too good and blew me away in the second and third sets! You played some excellent tennis which holds you in good stead for the rest of the league! Congratulations on your first win and I hope you manage to earn a few more! That was my eighth loss in a row but hopefully I won’t have to wait too long for my first victory! Now it’s time for a hard-earned rest for a few days!

Trewin: Hi David I think you have a career ahead as a sports journalist! Can’t add anything to what you have said and hope you enjoy your remaining games.
